Welcome to all HSLMA members, new and returning. I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing, enjoyable summer, and I also fervently hope you were able to stay dry and cool during some challenging weather conditions. I look forward to greeting everyone at our annual “Start the Year” meeting on Saturday, September 11, with Heather Vulpone of H&J Educational Resources. We will gather at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, which features a busy library that will be open to students as we meet on a Saturday morning. Be sure to take advantage of the excellent map with directions and parking information. The rest of the 2010/2011 program printed in this newsletter also looks very interesting and informative. As part of a membership fee of only $15 per year plus CPDUs for every meeting, our programs are all such a value. So be sure to renew or join HSLMA. It is also a pleasure to network with other school librarians and discuss “what really works” during these challenging times. Many thanks to our outstanding 2009/2010 President, Lisa Walsh. She is such a pleasure to work with, and we have all benefited from her dedication. Thank you also to Treasurer, Mary Spevacek, who has moved to a challenging new job in Rockford and will no longer serve as Treasurer of HSLMA. Continuing and new Board members also deserve recognition for their hard work. Jay Katzman, our Recording Secretary, took on the task of revising our bylaws last year. You can find the final version on the WIKI: [[|http://hslma.wikispaces.com]] Thank you also to the other Board members: Cynthia Armstrong, our new Vice President; Irish Leo-Bain, Newsletter Secretary; Mary Jo Pienton, Web/Online Secretary (WIKI guru); and Jill Kasper, Membership Secretary. As of this writing, no new Treasurer has been named (see accompanying ad). There are many great ideas percolating in HSLMA: a hospitality room at ISLMA on Friday, October 29, and perhaps another “outing” following our successful Chicago Architecture Foundation river cruise in June. So…please join us. We have a great time. You will too. Plus, remember those CPDUs for attending the meeting. Molly Klowden SAVE THE DATE!!SEE YOU THERE!!
